Etymology of Prismatocarpus:
Gk. prisma = a thin saw, hence angular; karpos = fruit. The slender inferior ovary becomes greatly elongated; the fruits are shaped like prisms.

From the Latin campanularis = 'bell shaped'; referring to the flower shape that resembles the genus Campanula

Slender glabrescent shrublet to 80 cm. Leaves linear-lanceolate, occ. weakly prickly-toothed, coarsely ciliate below; bracts lanceolate, ciliate. Flowers sessile, c. crowded at the branch tips and upper axils, white to lilac, bowl-shaped, 20--30 mm diam. Fruits c. 20 mm long. Dec.--Apr. Sandy or limestone flats and slopes, NW, SW, AP, SE (Elandskloof Mts to E Cape).
