Etymology of Melianthus:
Gk. meli, La. mel = honey; anthos = flower. The honey flowers ‘contain abundant nectar, but, judging by their stink, I would not expect edible honey! ‘Kruidjie-roer-my-nie’ (WPU Jackson).
Etymology of dregeanus:
Commemorates the brothers Carl Friedrich Drege (1791-1867) and Johann Franz Drege (1794-1881) of Huguenot ancestry. Prodigious botanists and plant collectors in the Cape.’
