Etymology of Lasiosiphon:
Gk. lasios = hairy, shaggy; siphon = tube. This group of plants (now included in Gnidia, q.v.) is characterised by woolly flower tubes.
Etymology of deserticola:
From Latin desertum = 'desert' and -cola = 'dweller', referring to the desert habitat of the species.
