Etymology of Ihlenfeldtia:
For Hans-Dieter Ihlenfeldt (1932– ), German professor of botany at Hamburg specialising in morphology and taxonomy of the families Mesembryanthemaceae (now in Aizoaceae) and Pedaliaceae. He conducted succulent plant research in South Africa, mainly in Namaqualand and the Transvaal (now Gauteng), where he collected over 2 000 specimens. Among his many publications, he authored Schumannia 4/Biodiversity & Ecology 2: 1–250. He was the 8th recipient of the Cactus d’Or award by the International Organisation for Succulent Plant Study in 1994.
