Etymology of Holmskioldia:
For Johan Theodor Holm (Holmskjold) (1732–1794), Danish botanist, physician and writer. A graduate of the University of Copenhagen (1760), he became a professor in medicine and natural history at Sorø Academy in 1762 before becoming, in 1767, director general of the Danish Postal Services in Copenhagen until he died. He also served as cabinet secretary for Queen Juliana Maria, consort of King Christian VII, first director in chief of the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory (all of which he embezzled!) and was co-director with Christen Friis Rottbøll of the Charlottenborg Botanical Garden. He authored a two-volume work on Danish fungi, Beata Ruris Otia Fungis Danicis Impensa. He became a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.
