Short etymology:
For Daniel Heinsius (1580–1655), a Dutch classical scholar, philologist and poet, one of the most famous scholars of the Dutch Renaissance. He studied at the universities of Franeker and Leiden where he was appointed professor of Latin (1602) and Greek (1605) and librarian of the Leiden University library (1607). He published profusely, inter alia, many editions on classical figures, e.g. Hesiod, Aristotle, etc., three volumes of Latin poems, a collection of Dutch poems, Latin orations, a treatise on political philosophy and a tragedy. He spent all his working life at Leiden.
