Etymology of Fuirena:
For Jørgen (Georg) Fuiren (1581–1628), Danish physician and botanist. He studied medicine, botany and mathematics at the University of Leiden (1598–1602), art at the University of Padua (1602), and obtained a medical doctorate (Basel and Strasbourg). He started practising as a physician in Copenhagen (1610) but gave up the practice (1623) to focus on botany, especially on Danish plants. He travelled throughout Scandinavia, and was a pupil of one of the Bauhin brothers. He came from a very wealthy merchant family, known for their generosity, and he did not need to worry about his medical practice, but could be freely occupied with botany. His last years were concerned with theological studies.
