Latinised from the Arabic name khat = the name of a headcloth worn by Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. The chewing of the leaves of khat as a social custom is well established as this can induce mild euphoria, reduce hunger, be used for ‘Bushman’s tea’ (South African common name) as well as have harmful narcotic effects.
Etymology of integrifolia:
From the Latin integri = 'entire' and folius = 'leaves'. i.e. The plant having entire leaves, meaning having a smooth margin without indentations or serrations, lobes or undulations.
