Etymology of Aloe:
Gk. aloē (from earlier Semitic word alloeh) = bitter. The liquid or dried juice found in the leaves is bitter.
Etymology of marshalli:
Named after Harry Hall (1906-1986), formidable collector and former curator of the succulent collection at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
