Species Aloe amicorum
Pictures from Observations
{"type":"FeatureCollection","features":[]}
From the Latin amicorum = 'of the friends'; possibly referring to the authors of the species
This included the author Dolf Schumann (1918–2001), a Cape Town born amateur botanist and Ericaphile. He graduated from the University of Cape Town with degrees in Physics and Mathematics. He had an extensive career in mining and on the Atomic Energy Board. In 1980 Dolf discovered a love of Ericas at Fernkloof in Hermanus. Over a ten year period he took extensive photographs of Ericas which were contributed to the Erica book in conjunction with Gerhard Kirsten and Ted Oliver. Erica schumannii is named after him, as well as E. amicorum (= of the friends). He also discovered E. dolfiana and E. chionodes from the Groot Swartberg. His collection of minerals was left to the Tulbagh museum.
