Short etymology:
For Johann Christoph Mössler (Moessler) (1770–1840), German botanist with expertise in the classification of plants. He authored a number of books, including Taschenbuch der Botanik (1805) (Handbook of Botany), which explained botanical language and examined 23 classes using the Linnaean system, and Handbuch der Gewachskunde (1827) (A Manual of Living Plants), which was written with Heinrich Gottlieb Ludwig Reichenbach (1793–1879), a German botanist, zoologist, naturalist and ornithologist who classified 2 900 new species. Their handbook examined the flora of Germany, including the major foreign crop plants.
