For Ludwig Eduard Theodor Loesener (1865–1941), German botanist. He studied in Lausanne then Berlin, obtaining a PhD in 1890. In 1896 he became an assistant to the Berlin-Dahlem Museum as a botanist and then curator in 1904, and in 1912 received the title of professor. In 1920 he went into retirement for political reasons but worked without pay at the botanical institute. His activities included systematic work on phanerogams and the processing of Eduard Seler’s collections from Mexico and Guatemala. He also studied the flora in the German colony of Kiaochow in China (published 1920) and areas in Europe. He wrote many papers and a number of obituaries for German botanists, such as Seler, Gustav Lindau and Otto Eugen Schultz.
