Short etymology:
For Pehr Forsskål (Peter Forskaol, Petrus Forskål or Pehr Forsskåhl) (1732–1763), Finnish-born Swedish botanist, zoologist, traveller and philosopher. Born in Helsinki, he studied botany at the University of Uppsala under Linnaeus and obtained a doctorate in philosophy and studied oriental languages at Göttingen. He was a naturalist on the Royal Danish expedition to Egypt and Yemen 1761–1763 where he died from malaria. Forsskål’s notes, Flora Aegyptiaco-Arabica, were published posthumously in 1775. The Danish botanist Carsten Niebuhr, who went on this expedition as geographer, was the sole survivor.
